Abstract

Abstract. In Indonesia, most postgraduate students choose to move away from home to pursue their master's programs. However, problems arise when they decide to do so. These problems range from academic challenges to cultural adjustments in their new environment. In this context, the role of peer support is crucial in helping students face their problems. This study aims to provide an overview of peer social support among postgraduate students who move away from home. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, gathering data through semi-structured interviews. The informants involved in this study were three postgraduate students who moved to Java. The findings illustrate aspects such as emotional support, esteem support, instrumental support, and informational support. Based on data analysis from the three informants, it was found that emotional support from peers provides strength and motivation, esteem support enhances psychological well-being and academic motivation, instrumental support helps address practical challenges and strengthens social bonds, informational support facilitates adjustment and opens new opportunities and social network support serves to provide access to all aspects of social support. The combination of all these forms of support contributes to the well-being and academic success of students during their studies in a new environment.
