Abstract
This study is motivated by the importance of effective learning methods in supporting students' achievement of Qur'an memorization targets, particularly the goal of memorizing 5 juz within three years. This is relevant to the implementation of tahfidz classes in the flagship program of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta, which adopts three primary methods: tahsin, muraja'ah, and tasmi'. Through the integration of formal education with a religious-based flagship program, the research shows that the implementation of learning activities runs optimally without compromising the quality of both aspects. This study aims to identify the teaching methods used in the Tahfidz class at the Flagship Program of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta, analyze the effectiveness of these methods, and examine the key successes and challenges faced in the implementation of the Tahfidz teaching methods. It is expected that the findings of this research will contribute significantly to the development of more effective teaching methodologies in similar educational institutions. This study uses a qualitative research approach with a phenomenological descriptive design. This approach was chosen to deeply understand the experiences, perspectives, and views of teachers, and students regarding the tahfidz learning process at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta. The main focus of the research is on the contextual and subjective understanding involved in the tahfidz learning process, with data collection through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The analysis technique used is the Interactive Model by Sanjaya, adapted from the interactive concept by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness and dynamics of tahfidz learning. The results of the study show that the primary methods applied in tahfidz class learning are the Tahsin, Muraja’ah, and Tasmi’ methods. In addition to these primary methods, supporting programs such as Bin-Nazhar, Talaqqi, and Intensive Mentoring are designed to strengthen and deepen students' memorization abilities. The effectiveness of these methods is evaluated through memorization tests and qualitative observations, focusing on memorization progress, the quality of recitation (tajwid), and the consistency of memorization submissions. The success of implementing this tahfidz method heavily depends on a structured and integrative approach, as well as active support from Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, families, and the school environment. However, challenges such as time limitations, varying student abilities, and inconsistent environmental support present barriers to its implementation. This study concludes that tahfidz learning not only focuses on memorization but also on tajwid comprehension and the strengthening of students' spiritual character. The recommendations aim to improve the quality of tahfidz learning and support the achievement of more optimal memorization targets.
