Abstract

This research was conducted to: 1) Analyze the speech acts of students in Rejang Kepahiang and Bengkulu languages, 2) Evaluate the mastery of meaning and functions of interjections in Rejang Kepahiang and Bengkulu languages, and 3) Discover the implications of pragmatic mastery in Rejang Kepahiang and Bengkulu languages from the teacher's perspective. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data triangulation was carried out by analyzing the results of observations, interviews, and documentation to verify the data's validity. Data analysis was conducted through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results of the study show that: (1) The speech acts found consist of 191 utterances. These utterances are divided into locutionary acts with 92 utterances, illocutionary acts (assertive, directive, expressive, and commissive) with 72 utterances, and perlocutionary acts with 27 utterances, (2) A total of 45 interjections were found, which are divided into volitive interjections (12 words), emotive interjections (23 words), and cognitive interjections (10 words). The interjections found include woi, we, wei, o, ayo, oke, nah, e, la, na, jo, Lailahailallah, tu, ko, ni, tu, and kan, (3) The implications of pragmatic mastery in Rejang Kepahiang and Bengkulu languages present both challenges and opportunities for teachers to improve teaching skills relevant to local social and cultural contexts.
