Abstract

Nervilia campestris is a ground orchid endemic to Java whose distribution is limited. One of the places in Yogyakarta where this orchid can be found is the Selarong Pajangan cave area, Bantul. The Selarong Cave area is included in the karst area category which has sufficient potential for underground water sources as a habitat for flora and fauna with a high level of endemicity. Community activities and land conversion can reduce the population of Nervilia campestris in this area. The aim of this research is to determine the population dynamics, morphology and habitat characteristics of the orchid Nervilia campestris. The method used in this research is purposive sampling to place a research plot measuring 5x5 m2. The results showed that the dynamic pattern of the orchid population decreased in both number and density in three consecutive months. The density of the Nervilia campestris orchid in the Selarong Cave area is 1.9 – 5.6 individuals/m2. The Nervilia campestris orchid in the vegetative phase has an average plant length of 7 – 12 cm2. The average leaf length is 5 – 8 cm2 and the average leaf width is 2 – 4 cm2, the average stalk length is 1.5 – 4 cm2. Nervilia campestris in the Goa Selarong area grows at an altitude of 105 – 111 meters above sea level with an air temperature of 29 – 34ºC and exposure to light intensity of 3956 – 8495 lux. Soil moisture is 77.5 – 96% with a pH of 6.5 – 7. Soil C-Organic content at station one is 3.27%, station two is 3.7% and station three is 5.20%. The average total nitrogen content at station one is 0.29%, station two is 0.32% and station three is 0.49%. The average C/N results at the three stations are 11 – 11.6, which indicates the criteria for soil with moderate fertility.
