Abstract
Known as a favorite tourist destination, Bali is the main destination for both local and foreign tourists. The number of tourists increases significantly every year. Taking advantage of this momentum, PT. TWBI made a plan to build reclamation in Benoa Bay. This reclamation will make Benoa Bay a tourist center in Bali. However, the plan has caused controversy among the Balinese people. The majority of Balinese people through traditional villages reject the reclamation plan. For the beliefs of the Balinese indigenous people, Benoa Bay is a sacred area that must be preserved. Reclamation is seen as something that is contrary to the beliefs of the Balinese people. Therefore, the Bali Rejects Reclamation movement emerged, which was carried out by the indigenous people and various elements of Balinese society. This movement is based on the customary and religious knowledge of the Balinese people. This study uses a qualitative method by collecting data through in-depth interviews with indigenous community leaders, direct observation in the field, and literature studies as supporting materials. In an effort to understand the dynamics of the Balinese indigenous people's resistance to the Benoa Bay Reclamation plan, this study applies Vandana Shiva's Ecofeminism theory. This theory was chosen because it is able to explain the relationship between environmental exploitation and oppression of indigenous peoples, and provides an in-depth analytical framework regarding how the resistance movement emerged as a response to threats to the environment and local wisdom. Thus, this study not only aims to reveal empirical facts, but also to reason the struggle of the Balinese indigenous people in maintaining their identity and cultural heritage through the lens of ecofeminism theory. The results of this study are that the construction of Balinese Hindu teachings is very closely related to nature. Maintaining the sustainability of nature is something that must be done by Hindu adherents. This teaching is the basis for the Balinese indigenous people's resistance movement against the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. The forms of resistance movements carried out are very thick with theological aspects and spiritual values of the Balinese indigenous people's religion. So that Vandana Shiva's Ecofemism concept is in line with the Balinese indigenous people's resistance movement against the Benoa Bay reclamation plan. The resistance efforts carried out by these indigenous peoples are an effort to maintain harmony between Man, God, and Nature, known as Tri Hita Karana.
