Abstract

This thesis is entitled "Traditions of Pilgrimage at the Tomb of Sheikh al-Wasil Syamsuddin Setono Gedong, Kediri City, 2011-2022". The formulation of the problem in this research is 1) How is the existence of the tomb of Sheikh al-Wasil Syamsuddin Setono Gedong, Kediri City, 2) What are the pilgrimage activities at the Tomb of Sheikh al-Wasil Syamsuddin Setono Gedong, Kediri City 2011-2022, 3) What is the meaning and tradition of pilgrimage to the tomb? Sheikh al-Wasil Syamsuddin Setono Gedong, Kediri City. This thesis was written using historical research methods with the following steps: heuristics (data collection), verification (criticizing data), interpretation (interpreting data), and historiography (writing history). This writing uses a descriptive-analytic approach. Descriptive is used to describe phenomena as they are and their dynamics can be captured in their entirety, and analyze existing data as writing material, while the theory used is motivational theory which encourages pilgrims to seek blessings at the tomb. In this research, we try to capture what is true regarding the dimensions of beliefs, beliefs, rituals and traditions that have taken place. From the research results, it was concluded that the grave of Sheikh al-Wasil Syamsuddin was sacred by the community because the community believed that there would be changes after the pilgrimage. The pilgrims have the same goal, namely to receive blessings at the grave and this is a form of respect for Sheikh al-Wasil Syamsuddin. The tradition and ritual carried out at the grave of Sheikh al-Wasil Syamsuddin is Istighosah every Friday night in the form of saying prayers, apart from that there are also routine activities in the months of Mulud, Rajab and Muharram. Pilgrim's forms of hope vary, from praying for grave experts to praying specifically for themselves, such as asking for easy sustenance, a soul mate, intelligence, and remembering death which can increase faith in Allah SWT
