Abstract

This research aims to reveal the activities carried out by Indonesian Chinese Islamic Associatio (PITI) ) through its socio-religious movements which have given rise to social changes occurring in the midst of Palembang City society. In order to study and explore a fairly comprehensive discussion, this research uses historical methods; heuristics (search), criticism, interpretation and historiography (historical writing). In order to obtain a more specific discussion, so that the discussion in this research is more focused and not too broad, the researcher limits the discussion to research with three important points, namely; Why can Indonesian Chinese Islamic Association (PITI) develop in Palembang? How does the Social-Religious Movement carried out by Indonesian Chinese Islamic Association (PITI) affect the people of Palembang? How does the public respond to Indonesian Chinese Islamic Association (PITI) Palembang? In order to get answers to the limiting points of the problem, the researcher was assisted by a sociological approach, the concept of social movements (Locer) and socio-religion. As for the findings from this research, it was found that the Palembang City PITI movement focuses on the realm of socio-religious activities such as; provision of regular recitations and studies, provision of TPA and tahfidz houses, provision of language and skills courses schools, provision of natural disaster relief programs and Prosperous medical treatment. This research concludes that a small Islamic minority organization that was present in the Palembang area with various colors of its missionary journey then succeeded in developing until it was able to obtain good perceptions from the community, increase community Islamic activities, improve Islamic education and socio-economic conditions, and strengthen brotherhood between Muslims, both native and Chinese minorities.
