Abstract
This research is intended to examine the social reality of Egyptian rulers in the novel Muzakkarti fi Sijn an-Nisa’ by Nawal Al-Sa'dawi. The problems that occur in the novel are related to the inconsistency of the Egyptian authorities in implementing the democratic system they are promoting. This gave rise to resistance by the people against the Egyptian rulers. The aim of this research is to reveal the factors that gave rise to community resistance to the Egyptian authorities. The research uses Alan Swingewood's literary sociology approach and James C Scott's theory of resistance in order to dissect the resistance carried out by society as a reflection of literary works. The data source in this research is the novel Muakkart f Sijn an-Nis’ by Nawal Al-Sa'dawi. There are two research data, namely primary data in the form of words, phrases and sentences in the novel Muakkart f Sijn an-Nis’ by Nawal Al-Sa'dawi, while secondary data consists of the social conditions of Egyptian society. The results of this research show that there are two forms of resistance carried out by the community against the Egyptian authorities, namely open and closed resistance. This form of open resistance refers to movements carried out systematically with coordination between leaders and members who take part in carrying out resistance, which can be seen when people consisting of student groups and activists carry out demonstrations, resistance through the media, write essays and send letters. to the ruler of Egypt. While closed forms of resistance tend not to have real manifestations in the emergence of actions because they are individual and are considered to have an influence on the order that already exists within a person, this resistance occurs when people who are detained in prison carry out resistance by carrying out strategies secretly and unite in prison. The resistance carried out by the community against the Egyptian authorities occurred due to three factors, namely, authoritarian rulers, human rights violations, and social injustice in society carried out by the Egyptian authorities.
