Abstract
This research aims to identify illocutionary speech acts and explain how optimism is expressed through illocutionary speech acts in the film AR-RIHLAH (THE JOURNEY). The study employs a pragmatic and positive psychology approach to analyze the film's dialogues. In addition to conveying actions, speech acts also express the psychological conditions of the speaker, including optimism, particularly in the context of the film. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative research using the observation method with documentation techniques. The results of this research indicate that optimism is expressed through illocutionary speech acts in the film AR-RIḤLAH (THE JOURNEY). This optimism is expressed through assertive and directive illocutionary speech acts. On the other hand, expressive and commissive illocutionary speech acts in this film do not express the optimism of the speaker. The dialogues in the film also reflect optimism through the belief that good things will happen in the future. Additionally, the research identifies the mindset of optimism or pessimism in an individual through the concept of explanatory style in psychology, developed by Martin Seligman. This study contributes to the integration of linguistic theory and positive psychology theory, and it can serve as a reference for further research on optimism expressed through illocutionary speech acts with different objects.
