Abstract

The financial performance of Islamic Commercial Banks is a crucial factor in assessing the stability of the financial system in the banking sector. Banks with a good reputation tend to engage in green banking practices. One of the motivations for banks to participate in green banking is to reduce the impact of environmental problems. This study aims to explore the effect of financial performance on the stability of Islamic Commercial Banks with green banking as a moderating variable. The financial performance indicators analyzed include Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Non Performing Financing (NPF), Operating Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO), and Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR). This study focuses on Islamic commercial banks registered with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) during the 2020-2023 period. The study population consisted of 14 Islamic commercial banks, with sample selection using the non-probability sampling method and purposive sampling technique, resulting in 10 Islamic commercial banks with a research period of 4 years, thus obtaining 40 research data. The hypothesis testing method in this study uses a panel data regression model with the Random Effect Model (REM) approach and for testing the moderating variables using the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) model using the Eviews 12 program. The results of this study indicate that the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) has a significant positive effect on the stability of Islamic commercial banks, the Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) has a significant negative effect on the stability of Islamic commercial banks, Non Performing Financing (NPF) and Operating Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO) do not affect the stability of Islamic commercial banks. Then the presence of green banking as a moderating variable is able to weaken the influence of CAR and NPF on the stability of Islamic commercial banks, is able to moderate by strengthening the influence of FDR on the stability of Islamic commercial banks, but is unable to moderate the influence of BOPO on stability. This shows that green banking is quite satisfactory but has not been able to improve the overall financial performance of Islamic commercial banks
