Abstract

Orchids symbiotically associate with mycorrhizal fungi to support their growth, especially during the early stages of development. This study aims to explore the diversity, differences in species, and mycorrhizal identification in wild and cultivated orchids, involving four species of epiphytic and terrestrial orchids: Grammatophyllum speciosum, Dendrobium macrophyllum, Eria javanica, and Dendrobium bigibbum. A total of 15 mycorrhizal isolates were successfully identified, consisting of 11 isolates from wild orchids and 4 isolates from cultivated orchids. The identification results showed that mycorrhizal diversity was higher in wild orchids, dominated by fungi from the Glomeromycota division and fungi from the genus Rhizoctonia, whereas fungi from the genus Tulasnella were more commonly found in cultivated orchids, indicating adaptation to cultivation conditions. The highest mycorrhizal fungal diversity was observed in Dendrobium macrophyllum, while Eria javanica exhibited lower diversity. The presence of mycorrhizal fungi in these orchids holds potential as biofertilizers that can stimulate orchid growth.
