Abstract
In Bumi Jawa Village, the initial goat trading was conducted using a weighing system, which later transitioned to the jogrok system where prices are estimated based on the condition of the goats. This system is considered easier and faster, thus more advantageous. Trading using the jogrok system involves bulk transactions where all goats, typically between 30 and 50, are sold at an estimated price. However, bulk transactions are usually associated with small items like grains, where pricing each individually is challenging. Unlike grains, goats are typically sold individually and vary in size, making standardized pricing impractical. Therefore, this issue warrants investigation to understand why the farmers in Bumi Jawa Village prefer this transaction model and how the validity of bulk goat trading under the jogrok system is viewed from the perspective of Islamic law. This study is field research conducted in Bumi Jawa Village using a normative-empirical approach. The author used direct interviews with goat farmers and buyers in Bumi Jawa Village, in-depth interviews, and a literature review to collect data related to the raised issues. The method used for data analysis is descriptive-analytical. The findings indicate that the practice of bulk goat trading using the jogrok system is favored by both farmers and buyers because it is more efficient in terms of time and effort and more profitable for the farmers as all goats are sold, even those with defects. According to Islamic law, this practice falls under the category of jizaf transactions and is permissible because it meets the legitimate requirements of jizaf transactions. Concerning the element of gharar (uncertainty) that may arise due to bulk pricing of goats with varying values, it falls into the category of permissible gharar by consensus of scholars, as the level of gharar is minor and difficult to avoid. Additionally, the general change in pricing systems seems inappropriate due to the valuation process later deemed to have mismatched values. However, based on the expertise and experience of both buyers and sellers in assessing the condition of the goats, the determined prices are acceptable to both parties. This is permissible based on 'urf or al-'adah al-muhakkamah, although it might involve uncertain values, it is tolerable because it is widely accepted and does not violate the sharia.
