Abstract

Kadipaten Village is a preservation of the Lengger dance tradition, the majority of which adhere to Islam. As Islam developed, there were differences of opinion regarding the tradition of the Lengger dance, especially regarding aspects that some consider contrary to Islamic teachings, such as ubarampe, possession during practice and others. Furthermore, the compiler in this study reviews the implementation of the tengger dance tradition in Kadipaten Village, by exploring the views of community leaders and two major Islamic organizations in the region, Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, which have a great influence in shaping the views on the cultural tradition. Furthermore, the compiler proposed a formulation of the problem: (1) What is the history and practice of the Lengger Dance tradition in Kadipaten Village, Selomerto District, Wonosobo Regency?, (2) What is the opinion of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah figures in Wonosobo regarding the Lengger dance tradition in Kadipaten Village, Selomerto District, Wonosobo Regency? This type of research is field research. Using the data analysis method in the form of descriptive-analytical-comparative with a historical approach and fiqh proposals. Meanwhile, the theories used are cultural history theory and urf theory. The primary data used by the researcher were interviews with 2 traditional figures of the Lengger dance, 2 Nahdlatul Ulama figures, and 2 Muhammadiyah figures in Wonosobo Regency. Then it is strengthened with secondary data such as books, theses, journals, articles, and others from the studies that have been carried out. Following conclusions are obtained. First, that the history of the Lengger dance tradition was originally a royal dance which was later used by the Walisongos as a means of practice in preaching at that time. Then, the practice of the Lengger dance tradition entered the Duchy Village as a means to unite the community and become a means of entertainment and economic improvement which caused several opinions from the community. Second, there are differences of opinion, thought, and arguments expressed by NU leaders and Muhammadiyah leaders of Wonosobo Regency. Nahdlatul Ulama figures said that the tradition of the Lengger dance is allowed and is only for public entertainment and has the legal status of 'urf sahih. Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah leaders considered their legal status. If in the implementation of the Lengger dance tradition it is indicated that the use of intermediaries or practices that are not in accordance with Islamic law, then it should not be carried out and can even have the status of haram law. Otherwise, it is considered a cultural tradition that must be preserved.
