Abstract

The development of globalization and technology has affected the use of communicating using local languages, especially Javanese. The decline in the use of communicating using Javanese is caused by technological, family, and educational factors. In this context, it is important to preserve local cultural values as is the case with TPA Nurul Iman. By maintaining culture through the habituation of communicating using Javanese. The formulation of the problem to be discussed is what is the cultural basis for the use of Javanese at TPA Nurul Iman and what is the Islamic basis for the use of Javanese. The purpose of this research is to analyze the cultural foundation of the use of Javanese language in TPA Nurul Iman and to describe the Islamic foundation used in the preservation of Javanese language. This research is a field research using qualitative research method with case study approach. Research data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation using a cellphone camera and recording during interviews. The analysis method uses Koentjaraningrat's theory of religion and culture. The data collection technique goes through four stages, namely, collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and verifying data. The results of this study indicate that the use of Javanese in TPA Nurul Iman is based on the cultural local wisdom of the community and religious values in its application. This cultural foundation includes the influence of environmental conditions, cultural values, community needs, cultural identity as well as support and challenges faced in local language preservation. In addition, the Islamic foundation emphasizes more on religious values, the influence of values in communication, the realization of language villages, and reflections on the use of Javanese.
