Abstract
This research and development study is motivated by the observation that IPAS lessons on ecosystem harmony are less engaging. Limited educational media in schools can hinder successful learning outcomes. To address this issue, the researcher developed an expository-based e-module for IPAS on ecosystem harmony to enhance students’ critical thinking and foster their creative thinking skills. The objectives of this research are to: (1) develop an expository-based IPAS e-module to enhance the critical thinking skills of 5th-grade students at SD Negeri Sempu Yogyakarta, (2) determine the feasibility of the developed expository-based IPAS e-module, (3) assess students’ responses to the expository-based e-module, (4) evaluate the effectiveness of the expository-based e-module in improving critical thinking skills, and (5) understand how implementing the expository-based e- module fosters students' creative thinking. This study employs the Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, questionnaires, and tests (pretest and posttest). The research was conducted in a 5th-grade class with 27 students. The developed material connects ecosystem harmony concepts and includes interactive elements such as discussion questions (group observation essays), interactive multiple-choice quizzes, YouTube videos, and environmental observation sheets. The results of the research indicate that: (1) the expository-based IPAS e- module was successfully developed using the ADDIE model, (2) the e-module was deemed highly suitable for use as a learning medium based on evaluations by content, media, and language experts, (3) students rated the e-module positively after trials, (4) the expository-based e-module effectively improved students' critical thinking skills, and (5) the e-module demonstrated significant success in fostering creative thinking skills, particularly in fluency, flexibility, and originality.
