Abstract
The massive use of social media today has led many individuals to self-disclose online about themselves. One of the predictors of self-disclosure behavior on social media is personality specifically the big five personality. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between big five personality traits and online self-disclosure in social media users. The method used in this study is a correlational quantitative method with 310 respondents consisting of 46 male and 264 female in early adult (18-25 years old) social media users. The sampling technique used a non-probability sampling technique, namely quota sampling. Data collection using measuring instruments RSDS (Revised Self Disclosure Scale) Wheeless Indonesian version by Fauzia et al and BFI-2 (Big Five Inventory version 2) by Oliver P. John and Chritopher J. Soto Indonesian translation version by Ide Bagus Siaputra. The results of the analysis of this study indicate that there is a relationship between big five personality traits and online self-disclosure in social media users with a contribution of big five personality traits to simultaneous selfdisclosure of 83.9%. In addition, of the five dimensions of the big five personality traits that have a significant positive relationship with online self-disclosure are neuroticism and openness to new experiences. While the personality types of extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness did not show a significant relationship with online self-disclosure. There is no significant difference in the level of self-disclosure between the group of social media users less than 3 hours and the group of social media users more than 3 hours.
