Abstract
Intellectual disability is a condition that limits the ability to think, learn, and function socially, characterized by below-average IQ, adaptation difficulties, and appearing before the age of 18. Parenting of people with intellectual disabilities requires special attention, just like broken home children who are vulnerable to mental fractures due to lack of parental affection. Both groups have psychological problems that must be addressed through rehabilitation, namely Islamic rehabilitation. This rehabilitation model is claimed to be an effective approach, by instilling morals, ethics, and spirituality. MCC LKSA Muhammadiyah Nanggulan is an institution that has successfully implemented Islamic rehabilitation through holistic programs such as Islamic classes, counseling, and skills training, which help improve mental health, Islamic character, and independence of persons with intellectual disabilities and broken home children. This research aims to examine the rehabilitation process of children with intellectual disabilities and broken homes at MCC LKSA Muhammadiyah Nanggulan, including the application of Islamic Religious Education values and its impact on their psychological problems. This research uses a qualitative method with the type of field study, supported by the approaches of Islamic Religious Education, religious psychology, and sociology. The research data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that Islamic rehabilitation is carried out with a holistic approach. Emotional and social support from foster siblings and mentors at LKSA plays an important role in providing love and attention, reducing trauma, and increasing children's self-confidence. LKSA functions as an ideal substitute family, which supports children's psychosocial development. Appreciation is also an important step in rehabilitation, motivating children to do good and carry out religious obligations. Children with intellectual disabilities face challenges in communication and independence, which require appropriate parenting and consistent support. This research yields data that children's mental health is strongly influenced by family conditions and a supportive environment. In Islam, mental health involves harmonious relationships with oneself, others and the environment. Therefore, community attention to children with psychological problems is needed so that they can grow well. This research provides insight into the importance of a holistic approach in Islamic rehabilitation to shape the Islamic character of children with psychological problems.
