Abstract

This research focuses on the importance of stimulating critical and creative thinking skills in early childhood as preparation for further education. Critical thinking skills help in solving problems, while creative thinking skills encourage various solutions. Stimulation from an early age requires teacher cooperation and an interesting learning model, such as STEAM with loose parts, which connects daily activities with fun learning. This research aims to: 1) To find the effect of the STEAM learning model with loose parts in improving the critical thinking abilities of young children. 2) To find out the effect of the STEAM learning model with loose parts in improving creative thinking abilities in young children, 3) To find out how effective the STEAM learning model with loose parts is in improving critical and creative thinking abilities in young children as measured by the N-Gain Test. The type of research used is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research design. The subjects in this research were 17 Class B kindergarten children in Kalasan. The data collection instruments used in this research are observation, interview and documentation instruments. The data analysis used was the normality test, descriptive statistics, data quality test using the Wilcoxon test and the Effect Size test. The research results showed There is a significant difference between the pretest and post-test scores which indicates the effectiveness of the STEAM learning model with loose parts to improve the critical thinking skills of young children. The paired t test carried out to see the effectiveness of the learning model obtained a significance value of 0.000, much smaller than 0.05. conclusion that there is a significant difference between the scores before and after treatment, so if the p value <0.05 then reject H0 (null hypothesis).
