Abstract

The influx of feminist tafsir discourse and the debate on gender inequality continue to be a concern today. The influence of feminist Muslim scholars has led individuals like Rofiah to open up new interpretations, criticize history, and speak out to the public through social media. This research departs from the following three issues: First, why the concept of Women's Ultimate Justice is used as an intellectual project by Nur Rofiah. Second, how is the hermeneutics of KHP and how it is applied in its interpretation. This study uses library research with Hans George Gadamer's hermeneutic approach that focuses on affective history and fusion of horizon. Both are approaches to see how the horizon of the mufasir affects the new interpretation as well as the understanding of the past and present contexts. This research pays close attention to the background of Rofiah's character from childhood to the present for consideration of how the reconstruction of her thoughts is formed in such a way. This research is also complemented by in-depth interviews and the focus of primary data processing through her work. The results of this study show, among others; First, the anxiety and influence of social transmission as well as education and activism influenced the construct of his thinking to pursue steadfastly the intellectual project in the long run. In addition, the maturity of the KHP methodology is based on the construction of knowledge and encouragement by KUPI. Second, the KHP methodology initiated by Rofiah prioritizes two lenses, namely women's biological and social experiences. According to her, in determining the true interpretation as the mission of the benefit of mankind, it is necessary to involve women as a consideration of the full meaning. The Qur'an in this case is inseparable from the social context in which it was revealed and the social context in which individuals want to interpret it. Third, Rofiah has done repeated interpretations that are associated in the realm of kinship. This research is divided into three interpretive themes, namely: First, leadership is an issue that continues to be reinterpreted by scholars. The argument for the legitimacy of leadership falls on the verse QS. an Nisa (4): 34, even though according to Rofiah the verse does not speak in a public context. The verse says that the purpose of leadership is to protect the wife and children's family while at home. Second, Rofiah criticizes the interpretation of the verse an Nisa (4): 3 that even if a man wants to practice polygamy, he must not forget the message of verse an Nisa> (4): 129 that “it will not be fair even if it wants to do so”. Third, women's reproduction has been given full appreciation in QS. al Ahqa>f (46): 15 and QS Luqma>n (31): 14 which describes the heavy burden of reproduction on women as 'wahnan 'ala wahnin'.
