Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial phase in an individual's development toward adulthood, marked by physical, cognitive, and emotional changes. Teenagers face various challenges, including identity formation and independence, which require active parental involvement. However, when both parents pass away, adolescents experience significant impacts psychologically, physiologically, economically, and socially. This study aims to explore the coping strategies of adolescents who have lost both parents. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Three informants were selected using purposive sampling based on the criteria of adolescents whose both parents had passed away. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that all three informants demonstrated various coping strategies, including self-controlling through personal activities, seeking emotional and informational support, positive reappraisal, escape avoidance, distancing, accepting responsibility, planful problem-solving, confrontive coping, seeking informational support, and spiritual coping. The combination of these strategies helps them cope with challenges, improve their quality of life, and achieve emotional stability.
