Abstract

The pressure of assignments carried out by college students can have a negative impact on physical and psychological conditions, and if it continues, it can lead to suicidal ideation. One of the factors that influences suicidal ideation is the satisfaction and frustration of basic psychological needs. This study aims to determine the relationship between satisfaction and frustration of basic psychological needs with suicidal ideation in students. The research method used is a quantitative correlational approach with a quota-sampling technique. The characteristics of the respondents used were active undergraduate students of Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University Yogyakarta aged 19-23 years who were included in the early adulthood age range with a total of 389 respondents. Data collection used a suicidal ideation scale and a scale of satisfaction and frustration of basic psychological needs. The data analysis technique used Spearman's rho non-parametric test because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between satisfaction and frustration of basic psychological needs with suicidal ideation in students with a p-value = 0.6545 for satisfaction and a p-value = 0.7139 for frustration of basic psychological needs. This study provides an impact in the form of insight into the relationship between satisfaction and frustration of basic psychological needs with suicidal ideation in students.
