Abstract

The limited variety of learning media is the cause of low student learning outcomes so that learning Arabic reading skills becomes constrained. For this reason, the development of learning media by combining the right approach is needed in learning Arabic. The contextual approach can be an alternative in the preparation of interesting Arabic reading learning media. The media that can be developed is picture story books. Thus, the objectives of this research are: (1) to develop Arabic picture story books with a contextual approach at SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Mungkid, (2) to analyze the effectiveness of Arabic picture story books with a contextual approach at SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Mungkid. This study applies a research and development method using the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) approach model.Product validation is carried out by material experts and media experts. To assess the effectiveness of the media, the product was applied to 7th grade students of SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Mungkid. Data collection is carried out by interviews, questionnaires, and tests. Pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using independent T-Test and paired T-Test with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 27 program. The results of this research are in the form of the development of learning media in the form of picture story books with a contextual approach for Arabic reading skills of 7th grade students of SMPIT Ihsanul Fikri Mungkid. This media consists of 6 themes about Mājilāngha wa-mādhā fīhā, Jamālu Būrubūdūra, At-tadaffuqu al-laṭīfu li-nahri Īlu, Jabalu Mīrābī al-qawiyyu, Tallu Tīdāra at-tārīkhiyyu, Siḥru Madīnati Mājilāngha which includes 6 language rules according to the learning outcomes of the Independent curriculum, namely Mubtadaʾ + khabar, Arqām, Khabar + mubtadaʾ muʾakhkhar, Taṣrīf lughawī li-al-muḍāriʿ. The effectiveness test of the T test using the Independent-Sample T Test showed that the Sig value. 0.026 <0.05, namely the use of picture story books with an effective contextual approach in improving the reading skills of grade 7 students. The results of the t-test paired with posttest data showed a Sig value of 0.000 < 0.05 which means that there is an influence of picture storybooks with a contextual approach in improving the reading skills of grade 7 students.
