Abstract
In the jurisdiction of the Sleman Police, the crime of motorcycle theft that occurred during 2022-2023 is quite high. The perpetrators usually sell the motorbikes resulting from the theft to get money. Of course, the motorbikes are sold without complete vehicle documents such as STNK and BPKB. So they are called illegal motorbikes. The Sleman Police have been recorded several times as having succeeded in finding and uncovering perpetrators of motorcycle theft from posts selling illegal motorbikes on Facebook social media. If you look at Facebook social media, especially those posted in the Sleman area and its surroundings, there are still many posts selling illegal motorbikes. Of course, this is a concern for the police because from the many posts selling illegal motorbikes, it is possible that there are still motorbikes resulting from theft. This type of research is field research, namely research conducted in the field or in a certain environment. This research uses an empirical legal approach, namely looking at laws and regulations that are linked to reality or facts in the field. This research is descriptive analytical in nature, namely explanatory and aims to obtain a complete picture of the legal situation in a particular place or regarding existing legal symptoms or a particular legal event that occurs in society. In the data collection method using interviews and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the efforts of the Sleman Police to uncover the crime of theft from illegal motorcycle trading on Facebook social media are by monitoring and supervising the circulation of illegal motorcycles on Facebook social media. This monitoring and supervision is based on police reports of cases of motorcycle theft recorded at the Sleman Police, especially motorcycle theft cases that have not been solved. By monitoring and supervising Facebook social media, the police will look for illegal motorcycles that have the same characteristics as those in the police report. Obstacles in efforts to uncover the crime of theft from illegal motorcycle trading on Facebook social media are from police factors and community factors. The police factor is that the police sometimes have difficulty meeting the alleged perpetrators because the account owner sometimes does not want to be invited to COD (cash on delivery) when the police pretend to bargain, the difficulty of tracking through Facebook social media the alleged perpetrator of theft because sometimes the account owner met by the police turns out to be the second person to buy the illegal motorcycle, and sometimes the Facebook account used to post the illegal motorcycle suspected of being stolen is a fake account. The social factor is the lack of legal awareness so that there are still people who are interested in buying and selling illegal motorbikes.
