Abstract

This study aims to explore how the competence, teaching methods, and characteristics of educators influence the motivation, enthusiasm, and learning patterns of students at Pondok Pesantren Al-Luqmaniyyah Yogyakarta. Additionally, it seeks to understand the role of students' backgrounds, habits, and cultural values in shaping the dynamics and learning atmosphere within the pesantren environment. Furthermore, this research aims to identify how the use of kitab kuning as the primary learning resource affects students’ learning patterns, thinking skills, and internalized values in their daily lives. This study employs a qualitative research method with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects were selected based on the 3M principle individuals possessing knowledge, understanding, and direct experience related to the research topic. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that The learning culture at Pondok Pesantren Al- Luqmaniyyah Yogyakarta is influenced by the character of the teachers, students, and the role of kitab kuning as the primary source of learning. The competence, experience, and professionalism of the teachers shape students' learning patterns and create a conducive academic environment through both traditional and modern teaching methods that enhance critical thinking and comprehension. The character of the students, including motivation, discipline, and study habits, also contributes to building a dynamic and sustainable academic atmosphere, supported by interactions in discussions and deliberations. Kitab kuning serves not only as a source of Islamic knowledge but also as a foundation for shaping students' intellectual, moral, and spiritual character. Through the pesantren's distinctive learning methods, kitab kuning preserves the scholarly tradition while adapting to contemporary developments. Thus, the continuity of the learning culture in this pesantren is maintained through the synergy between the role of teachers, the character of students, and the significance of kitab kuning in the pesantren’s education system.
