Abstract
Qibla direction is the direction that determines the position of Muslims in performing prayers. Carelessness in measuring the Qibla direction can result in deflection of the actual Qibla direction. Therefore, it is necessary to compare the methods of determining the Qibla direction. This research aims to produce the best method and accurate Qibla direction. This research uses two methods, namely the Spherical Trigonometry method and the Vincenty method. The Spherical Trigonometry method uses the concept of a spherical triangle formed from three large circles with intersections at the coordinate point of the Kaaba, the coordinate point of the place and the north pole point, while the Vincenty Method uses the concept of the earth's ellipsoid to determine the distance and azimuth with an iterative solution. The two methods are calculated for the accuracy of the Qibla direction by producing the Qibla azimuth angle. The case study raised in this research is at the Gedhe Kauman Mosque, Yogyakarta. Calculation of Qibla direction is done by manual calculation and computer programming. The calculation results of the two methods show that the highest accuracy is the Spherical Trigonometry method. In this method, it produces a Qibla azimuth of 294,714930349531 and an angle difference of 0,000030349531 with reference to the location point of the Qibla direction.
