Abstract
The process of using sign language on television media for deaf audiences has not all run according to the needs expected by the deaf audience. The use of sign language (Bisindo) on news programs broadcast on TVRI Yogyakarta for the Muslim Deaf community in Yogyakarta still has several obstacles in understanding the content of the news delivered by the sign language interpreter because the screen is too small, programs other than news also do not yet have sign language. Communication is an important thing for humans, both verbally and non-verbally. The researcher is interested in conducting this research because in addition to being part of the Mulia Deaf community in Yogyakarta, the researcher also hopes to be able to convey the information needs of the deaf audience in all areas covered by news broadcasts from TVRI Yogyakarta, according to the title that will be reviewed by the researcher, namely the Use of Sign Language (Bisindo) on TVRI Yogyakarta television news broadcasts in Meeting the Information Needs of the Muslim Deaf Community in Yogyakarta (Mulia). This research was conducted to answer the question of how the Mulia Deaf community in Yogyakarta understands the content of the news delivered by TVRI Yogyakarta in using sign language translation which is a form of media and government concern for the deaf. The research hopes that this research can be a reference for similar research in the future. The results of this study explain that TVRI Yogyakarta has not been able to fully meet the information needs of the Deaf audience because the policies of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission and also the terms in the content of the News do not comply with bisindo.
