Abstract
The employment sector that offers flexible work is one of the most popular jobs in recent times. Work flexibility provides space for women to participate directly in the economic sector. The massive participation of women in the economic sector is called the feminization of work. One of the jobs that applies the work feminization system is the Yakult Lady job. However, the existence of work flexibility can make women coexist with the uncertainty of life. Workers who coexist with vulnerability are referred to as precariat groups. This study aims to describe the background of women choosing the Yakult Lady job, review the reality of women as precariat workers, and describe the impacts, challenges and strategies of women in carrying out the precariat work system. This research is a qualitative study with a narrative research approach. Data collection in this study used observation, interview and documentation techniques with Yakult Lady in Sleman Regency. Data analysis was conducted using the concepts of Habitus, Capital, and Domain by Pierre Bourdieu and the concept of Precariat Workers by Guy Standing. This study found that work flexibility is the main factor for women to choose the Yakult Lady job in addition to unstable economic factors. This study also found that the Yakult Lady's work aims to empower women's economy. Yakult Lady is a job that coexists with work vulnerability. However, Yakult Lady feels that behind the vulnerability are many positive impacts felt by women. The acceptance of work uncertainty is a habitus owned by Yakult Lady. Yakult Lady has economic capital in the form of private vehicles and cellphones to carry out work. As for cultural capital in the form of women's ability to socialize and symbolic capital in the form of the assumption that women are more easily accepted by consumers who play a role in the formation of work feminization. The domain or work area of each Yakult Lady has been determined by the company so that there is no competition between Yakult Lady. However, the Yakult Lady is part of the partial precariat work group. This is due to the non-fulfillment of three of the seven labor guarantees described by Standing.
