Abstract

Shifting payments from cash to noncash can affect the velocity of money by increasing the frequency of transactions, but this also has the potential to reduce money circulation if people are more likely to save money digitally. This research aims to analyze the effect of cashless payments on the velocity of money in the country with the largest economy in the world in 2014-2022 by adding the variables of interest rates, exchange rates and inflation. This research uses secondary data taken from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), World Bank, and Trading Economics. This research uses the fixed effect model method with a sample of 23 countries. The results of this research show that the cashless payment variable has a negative effect on the velocity of money, the interest rate variable and the exchange rate variable have no effect on the velocity of money, and inflation has a positive effect on the velocity of money in 23 countries with the largest economies in the world in 2014-2023.
