Abstract

This study aims to identify factors influencing burnout among working students and their coping strategies. The research involved three participants, all of whom were working students employed in different occupations. A qualitative research method with phenomenological approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation tailored to the research questions. The findings indicate that academic demands, work requirements, conflicting work schedules, late-night shifts, and unpleasant coworker behavior were significant factors contributing to burnout among working students. Participants employed both behavioral and emotional coping strategies, including smoking for relaxation and stress relief, as well as seeking social support from close friends. While smoking may provide temporary calming effects, its potential long-term negative consequences warrant consideration. Conversely, self-regulation skills and social support demonstrated greater effectiveness in managing burnout. In conclusion, this study reveals that all three participants experienced burnout while balancing dual roles as students and workers, with various contributing factors identified.
