Abstract
The construction of the toll road as a national project has had a dual impact on the people of Bayen hamlet. On the one hand, the toll road improves regional accessibility. However, it also causes changes in the community's social and religious structure. The toll road crossing Bayen hamlet divides the area, scattering the community. This change is physical and non-physical, damaging the long-established social order of solidarity, social cohesion, mutual cooperation, and religious life systems that have been an important part of the community's collective identity. This has resulted in anomie, or social chaos. However, the community is making efforts to adapt to these changes. This study employed a qualitative approach, collecting data through interviews, observations, and documentation. Seven informants who were considered to best understand the expected information in accordance with the research data needs were interviewed using a purposive method. These informants included Mr. Dukuh, Mr. RT, takmir administrators, displaced community members, and those from the surrounding area. The researcher conducted observations by going directly to Bayen to see the former residential area and the relocation area. The research was analyzed using Talcott Parsons's structural functionalism theory, specifically the AGIL scheme. This scheme emphasizes the use of adaptation when analyzing data. The results showed that the construction of the toll road had various physical and nonphysical impacts. These impacts include social disorganization, conflict, regional separation, and the displacement of places of worship and tombs. In response to these changes, the community has relocated independently, formed new neighborhood associations, and adjusted religious social structures. The relocation of tombs became a collective symbol that strengthened spiritual ties and moral values. Additionally, religious practices, such as integrated Friday prayers, function as a mechanism that fosters social cohesion and maintains a sense of community amid physical separation. Youth activities are maintained through inter-RT collaboration as a form of collective creativity to maintain solidarity. This research confirms that religion plays a role in the community's adaptation process to changes resulting from toll road construction.
