Abstract

Weton calculation is an element inherent in the cultural traditions of Javanese society that is still maintained, one of which is by the people of Kembangkuning Village, Cepogo District. Most people in Kembangkuning Village still use the tradition of weton calculation before marriage as a complementary kafa’ah to create a sakinah family. People believe that the results of weton calculations can affect the continuity of a couple's marriage, especially in forming a sakinah family. Based on this phenomenon, it becomes very relevant to examine the community's belief in the practice of weton calculation as a complementary kafa’ah in realizing a sakinah family and to examine more deeply the rationality of weton calculation as a complementary kafa’ah in realizing a sakinah family. The research method used in the thesis is field research (Field Research) with descriptive analysis method. Using an anthropological approach, the data collection techniques used in this research are interviews and documentation relevant to the research. Data analysis used in this research is data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The analysis was carried out using Max Weber's social action theory and Peter L Berger's Social Construction. The results show that the Kembangkuning Village community's belief in the practice of weton calculation as a complementary kafa’ah is because weton has become part of tradition, cultural heritage, a means of realizing a sakinah family, and is considered a way to harmonize life with nature. When viewed using Max Weber's perspective, this tradition is classified as affective and traditional action. The rationality of the Kembangkuning community's belief in weton calculation as a complementary kafa’ah in realizing a sakinah family is that when weton calculation is carried out, the traits and characters of each person will be known and come from stories of previous couples' experiences. If analyzed using Peter L. Berger's social construction theory, the weton calculation practice is an inherent social construction in society formed through the process of externalization, objectivization and internalization.
