Abstract
This study aims to identify the importance of the competence of school library personnel in an effort to implement an automation system in the Madrasah Aliyah Al-Ma'had An Nur Bantul Library. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research method. To obtain data, researchers used data collection methods of observation, interviews and documentation. The technique of determining informants using purposive sampling technique. While data analysis uses a model from Milles & Huberman which consists of three streams of activities, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The data validity test used credibility test, transferability test, dependability, and confirmability. The result of this study is that the competence of library staff at the Madrasah Aliyah Al-Ma'had An Nur Bantul Library has fulfilled and carried out all six aspects of competence in an effort to implement an automation system using SLiMS well. Although there is one aspect of competence that is still not good, namely from the aspect of value competence. Of the three library staff, there is one person who has not been recognized as a library staff because he has not attended training and received a certificate of competence. The competencies possessed by library staff are practical experiences carried out autodidactically and not through training. So the competence of library staff remains urgent or important and cannot be ignored in the effort to implement the school library automation system, as explained by Law No. 43 of 2007 regarding the definition of library staff. Inappropriate educational background is one of the main obstacles for library staff in the effort to implement the SLiMS automation system. This mismatch can affect several important aspects of library performance and services in the implementation of an automation system using SLiMS software in the Madrasah Aliyah Al-Ma'had An Nur Bantul Library. To optimize the performance of library staff, it is important for the library to overcome inhibiting factors and strengthen supporting factors Efforts to increase competence through training and self-development are important keys in overcoming existing obstacles. Thus, library staff can provide better, more efficient services, and be more responsive to user needs.
