Abstract

Ghassan Kanafani in his short story anthology Arḍ al-Burtuqal al-Ḥazin, especially in the three short stories Ab`ad min al-Ḥudud, Salas Auraq min Filisṭin, and al-Akhḍar wa al-Aḥmar, uses a lot of language styles that support the idea of resistance. The selection of the three short stories in this research was based on the strength of the message of resistance and the uniqueness of the language style used compared to other short stories in the same anthology. As stated by structuralists, it cannot be denied that language style has a significant role in literary works. For this reason, this research with the title “Ghassan Kanafani’s Language Style of Resistance Literature in Ab`ad min al-Ḥudud, Salas Auraq min Filisṭin, and al-Akhḍar wa al-Aḥmar (Stylistic Studies)” seeks to reveal what forms of language style are used by Ghassan Kanafani and the effects it produces in the context of the meaning of resistance with stylistic theory from Burhan Nurgiyantoro’s book. Apart from that, this research also analyzes the style of telling the story from Sayyid Qutb's perspective and relates it to the resulting effect on meaning. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The method used is the listening method with tapping techniques, and advanced techniques in the form of proficient free-involved listening techniques and note-taking techniques. The results of this research show that there are various forms of language styles used by Ghassan Kanafani in the three short stories, both in terms of sound, lexical, grammatical, figure of speech and structural investigation. Each short story has its own characteristics in terms of linguistic strategy, as well as the style of telling the story. The choice of language style strategy supported by the choice of storytelling style can support the achievement of the message of resistance. The more intense the language style that is used accompanied by a supportive story telling style, the more quickly the reader can grasp, understand and accept the idea of resistance that Ghassan Kanafani refers to, both intellectually and emotionally.
