Abstract

This study examines the process of literacy-based community development carried out by the Helicopter GoBook Maos Community Reading Park (TBM) in Argosari Village, Bantul Regency. The research method used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. The objects of the study were the literacy conditions of the community before the TBM was established, the role of the Helicopter TBM in carrying out literacy-based community empowerment and the results of community empowerment that were successfully achieved. The subjects of the study consisted of the head of the Helicopter TBM, members of the TBM management, local people who felt the impact of empowerment and volunteers who were active in the TBM. The results of the study showed that the literacy conditions of the community were included in the passive category before the Helicopter GoBook Maos TBM was established. This means that the community does not yet have critical skills in receiving and processing the information received. Through various empowerment activities provided by the Helicopter TBM, community awareness of the importance of literacy has increased and a literate society has been created. This study shows the role of the Helicopter GoBook Maos TBM which has not only succeeded in becoming a learning center but also a place to carry out community empowerment activities. Literacy-based empowerment activities or programs described in this study are not only limited to reading and writing activities, but also through activities in various fields including education, economy, arts and culture, and technology and digital. This study also explains the results of empowerment at TBM Helicopter which were successfully achieved in various aspects, including increasing community interest in reading, increasing community abilities and skills through training classes, growing active participation from the community in empowerment activities and increasing the community's economy.
