Abstract

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has never been out of the public spotlight, as it is considered the longest and most complex conflict in the world today. This conflict has been going on for decades, even until today. The Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement emerged as a response to the conflict, utilizing digital media as the main means of campaigns that aim to pressure Israel to comply with international law and stop policies that are considered discriminatory against the Palestinian people. This research aims to: 1) find out how BDS Indonesia mobilizes the masses through digital media to support the Palestinian struggle, 2) identify the impact of digital campaigns conducted by BDS on public awareness and involvement. This research uses qualitative research methods by collecting data through interviews, observation, and documentation. The informants in this study amounted to 6 people consisting of 3 managers and 3 audiences. The results of this study show that the systematic and adaptive organizational strategies owned by BDS Indonesia, accompanied by the management of available resources, are able to mobilize the masses to be actively involved in actions organized to defend Palestine, such as boycotts and petition signing, which have an impact on several aspects, such as shifting public consumption patterns, decreasing sales experienced by several companies that have complicity with Israel, influencing policies in Indonesia, and even at the international level.
