Abstract
Social support plays an important role in the psychosocial rehabilitation of People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) after being discharged from a Mental Hospital. The process of providing and receiving social support is an interesting aspect to explore further. This research aims to gain a deeper understanding of the process of providing and receiving social support, as well as the forms of social support given by the Department of Mental Health and Disabilities at the SATUNAMA Foundation to ODGJ patients after their discharge from the Mental Hospital. The research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document. The results of the study show that the forms of social support provided by the Department of Mental Health and Disabilities include emotional, informational, tangible, and belonging support. The sources of this support come from caregivers, family members, psychologists, and peers. Furthermore, to build closeness with the assisted residents, caregivers establish a relationship of trust with each individual. In the case of one assisted resident, it illustrates the forms of social support received during their time at the Department of Mental Health and Disabilities. The social support received has an impact on the recovery process of the assisted residents. The conclusion of this research is that the forms of social support provided by the Department of Mental Health and Disabilities—including emotional, informational, tangible, and belonging support—have a positive impact on the recovery process of the assisted residents.
