Abstract

Gunungkidul is a regency in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province that still maintains strong ties to its culture and traditions despite the rapid currents of globalization. One of the traditions deeply rooted in the Gunungkidul community is the Rasulan tradition. This tradition is a customary ceremony held once a year as an expression of gratitude for the harvest received. Rasulan tradition consists of various components, including preparation processes, implementation, equipment, and its values. Therefore, this study aims to understand the meaning of the Rasulan tradition as a form of gratitude expressed by the community in Dusun Kenis, Purwodadi, Tepus District, Gunungkidul Regency. This research used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to explore the community’s subjective experiences in interpreting the Rasulan tradition. The informants in this study consisted of three individuals as the research criteria. The criteria defined for this study were: 1) individuals who reside in Dusun Kenis and 2) have been directly involved in the implementation of the Rasulan tradition. The results of this study indicated that the Rasulan tradition in Dusun Kenis is interpreted by the community as a tangible expression of gratitude for the blessings they have received, as well as a form of appreciation toward God and others. This tradition serves both as a spiritual and social space to express gratitude through various positive behaviors. This research is expected to open opportunities for further studies on how gratitude is interpreted and manifested through local traditions such as Rasulan.
