Abstract

This study aims to determine the histological structure of the gizzard between chickens (Gallus gallus domecticus) as an example of grain eaters and Javan Hawk owls (Tyto alba javanica) as an example of a meat eater. Dietary differences are believed to affect the morphological and histological adaptation of digestive organs, especially the gizzard which plays an important role in mechanical digestion. In addition, this study aims to produce an atlas of Comparative Histology of the Gizzard of the two species as a learning resource for students. Based on the observation time and the stage of organizing the Gizzard Comparative Histology Atlas using Canva through the stages of material preparation, layout design and product printing. This study includes histology preparation of gizzard samples from both species through the stages of fixation, dehydration, embedding, cutting, and staining. Microscopic observation and analysis were conducted to identify and compare histological components of the gizzard, such as muscle layer thickness, epithelial layer characteristics, and the presence of other specialized structures related to digestive function. The atlas learning resources were assessed by experts, namely 1 media expert and 1 material expert, 5 peer reviewers, 1 biology teacher and 15 students of grade XI MAN 2 Sleman. Based on the experts' assessment, the Atlas scored 82.06% with very good quality, peer reviewers scored 95% with very good quality, biology teachers scored 99% with very good quality, and student responses scored 94% with very good quality.
