Abstract

The role of fathers in childcare has become an important social issue. This is reflected in the growing popularity of the terms 'fatherless' and 'father hunger', which describe conditions in which a child experiences a lack of a father figure. This condition often stems from high divorce rates and changes in family structure, as well as abusive father behaviors that cause children to grow up without an active father. This certainly has a psychological and social impact on children. One indication of parenting trauma is the presence of fear of intimacy by individuals in relationships with others. Meanwhile, the marriage rate in Indonesia has recently experienced a drastic decline (de-escalation of the marriage rate). Thus, this study aims to analyze the relationship between perceived father involvement and fear of intimacy with marriage intention. This research uses a mixed method with a concurrent embedded strategy that uses questionnaires and interview sheets as research instruments. The results of this research with a total of 260 subjects are: (1) Simultaneously, there is a relationship between the independent and dependent variables with Fhitung> Ftabel, namely 29.5> 3.03 or p-value < .001 < α = 0.05. (2) There is a significant positive relationship between the variable of perceived father's involvement and the variable of intention to marry with the value of tcount = 3.884 > ttable = 1.960 and the significant p- value of the t-test of variables X1 and Y is <0.001, which means the p-value < α (0.05). 3) Likewise, there is also a significant negative relationship between the fear of intimacy variable and marriage intention with the value of tcount = -5.193 > ttable = 1.960 and the significant p-value of the X2 and Y variable t-test is <0.001, which means p < α (0.05). This study empirically confirms the significant relationship between father involvement and fear of intimacy with marriage intention.
