Abstract

With the increasing complexity of modern software, software testing has become very important to ensure that applications are of high quality. This research develops a Visual Studio Code extension to generate automated unit tests on CodeIgniter 4 with AI integration, to address the testing efficiency challenges faced by developers. Using the Extreme Programming method, this extension combines AI-based approaches and fallback templates, is able to analyze controller code, generate controller unit tests, and integrate with PHPUnit for test execution. Test results showed that the extension successfully reduced test generation time and achieved a UAT score of 72%, although it is still limited to CodeIgniter 4 and controller-level testing, with future development plans including support for models.
