Abstract
The rubber-based sparepart industry in Indonesia including PT. BESQ Sarana Abadi faces critical challenges in maintaining consistent product quality and optimizing production efficiency. One of the major problems encountered is the inconsistency in rubber compound formulations especially in grommet products resulting in a 19% defect rate from total production in January 2025 and increasing production costs by approcimately 10%. This issue highlights the need for a systematic and efficient approach to identify the optimal formulation of rubber compounds. This research employs the Taguchi Method as an effective experimental design technique to determine the best combination of three main parameters: carbon, filler, and oil each tested at three levels. The experiments were conducted using the open mill lab machine at PT. BESQ Sarana Abadi and the mechanical properties evaluated included hardness, tensile strength, elongation, and rheometer data. Data analysis utilized Minitab software through the application of Signal to Noise Ratio (S/N) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to assess the influence and contribution of each factor. The experimental results revealed that the optimal parameter combination is 80 phr carbon, 40 phr filler, and 70 phr oil. Among these factors oil was identified as the most significant contributor to product quality with a contribution value of 71,07%. Therefore, the application of the Taguchi Method has proven effective in optimizing rubber compound formulation to improve hardness, tensile strength, elongation, and rheometer characteristics.
