Abstract
Indonesia's simultaneous elections since 2019 mark a major shift in the democratic system, where presidential and legislative elections are held together. This context introduces the coattail effect, where presidential candidates' popularity influences legislative election results. This study examines the relevance of the coattail effect in the 2024 election and its impact on political representation and balance of power. This research uses library research with a juridical-normative approach and descriptive-qualitative analysis. It applies the theories of coattail effect and maslahah mursalah to assess both the political and ethical-legal implications. The findings show that the coattail effect remains influential in the 2024 elections, benefiting parties supporting popular presidential candidates. However, excessive dominance can undermine checks and balances. From the perspective of maslahah mursalah, it is acceptable if it supports public welfare and fair political representation.
