Abstract
This study discusses the dynamics of multicultural social work practices in drug rehabilitation at IPWL Indocharis, based on Christian teachings and values, particularly in dealing with Muslim clients as a minority group in that environment. The study aims to identify the challenges faced by social workers and analyze the application of cultural competence based on the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). The theories used are cultural competence from Derald Wing Sue, multiculturalism from Bhikhu Parekh, and cultural competence standards from NASW. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using case study methodology. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with subjects including social workers, social service staff, Muslim clients currently undergoing rehabilitation, and former Muslim clients. Additionally, the researcher conducted participant observation and documentation through the foundation's social media accounts and staff records. The results of the study indicate that the challenges faced by social workers include adapting to Christian elements, language limitations, social workers only performing administrative functions, the absence of Islamic spiritual guidance, and the lack of formal policies regarding religious diversity. The approach taken by social workers towards clients is general, through motivation or counseling, without integrating the religious values of Muslim clients. The services provided by the foundation remain religiously neutral and do not substantively address spirituality, although there are accommodations for prayer tools, sahur (pre-dawn meal), and breaking the fast together. This study recommends the need for ongoing training, religiously inclusive service policies, social workers being given space to participate in decision-making, and the foundation recruiting staff from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. The recommendations provided by the author aim to achieve social justice and meet the cultural competency standards of the NASW.
