Abstract

The role of youth in volunteer activities is not always viewed positively by society due to their perceived lack of professional experience. The Milenial Bergerak Community provides a platform for them to volunteer without adult involvement. This study aims to determine the factors that encourage youth to participate in volunteerism and the obstacles faced by the Yogyakarta Millennial Bergerak Community in carrying out its organizational activities. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that youth participation in batch 1 in this community is driven by various interrelated factors. In the functional motivation category, the dominant finding is Values, such as the desire to help others, share happiness, and inner satisfaction. The second dominant finding came from the category understanding, namely the desire to learn, broaden one's horizons, and gain a deeper understanding of the social world. Other motives that were also found include protective, enhancement, and career. Meanwhile, the classification of motivation sources shows that intrinsic motivation is more dominant, originating from within. On the other hand, in the category of community obstacles in carrying out its activities, the most dominant category is poor communication (Inadequate Communication), further related to the unclear objectives or activity planning (Unclear Aims), as well as inappropriate management philosophy (Inappropriate Management Philosophy).
