Abstract
Economic problems faced by rural communities, particularly women, have led to empowerment initiatives, such as Women Farmers Groups (KWT). The double barriers that women face, such as limited access to employment opportunities and domestic responsibilities, make women's empowerment crucial. Unfortunately, many KWTs are short-lived and have not empowered housewives to their full potential. However, the KWT Melati in Salakan Village, Magelang, has survived for over 14 years. This study aims to investigate how the KWT empowers housewives and the factors contributing to the KWT Melati's success. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation to describe the process of empowering housewives through the Melati KWT. Theories used include empowerment, leadership, teamwork, and organizational management theories. The Melati KWT's empowerment process is carried out in stages: awareness, capacity building, empowerment, and independence. Integral parts of this process include activities such as yard utilization, skills training, agricultural product processing, savings and loans, and strategic partnerships. The research findings suggest that KWT Melati's success lies in programs that align with local potential and internal factors, such as member cohesion and strong leadership. The Melati KWT serves as a concrete example of how women can be agents of change within families and communities by opening inclusive economic opportunities and empowering housewives in a sustainable way.
