Abstract
This study aims to determine: (1) the effectiveness of mathematics learning using the Guided Discovery Learning model with the Numbered Head Together on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of eighth-grade students, (2) the effectiveness of mathematics learning using the Guided Discovery Learning model with the Numbered Head Together on the activity of eighth-grade students. This type of research is a quasi experiment with a research design that is nonequivalent control group design. The independent variable in this study is the Guided Discovery Learning (GDL) learning model with Numbered Head Together (NHT) and the dependent variable is the problem solving ability and activeness of students. The population in this study were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Jetis and the samples of this study were class VIII A as experimental class 1, class VIII D as experimental class 2, and class VIII B as the control class. Data analysis used on problem solving ability data is the Kruskall Wallis test while for student activeness data is the One Way ANOVA test followed by the Tukey test with a prerequisite test in the form of normality test and homogeneity test on both data. The results showed that: (1) the guided discovery learning model with numbered heads together is no more effective than the guided discovery learning model and the conventional learning model in terms of the mathematical problem- solving abilities of eighth-grade students, (2) the guided discovery learning model with numbered heads together is more effective than the guided discovery learning model and the conventional learning model in terms of the activity levels of eighth- grade students.
