Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of recreational services and programs provided by the Regional Library and Archives Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta in supporting the development of edu-tourism; analyze the utilization of recreational services by visitors at the Library Service Center (Balai Yanpus) in supporting edu-tourism; and identify the potentials and challenges in developing recreational services as part of an edu-tourism strategy at the Library Service Center. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that the recreational services provided by the Public Library Service Center include various programs and facilities such as children's reading rooms, storytelling spaces, music rooms, a 6D cinema, digital and audiovisual rooms, and the Wisata Pustaka guided tour program. The utilization of these services positively impacts children's cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development, while also strengthening family involvement in literacy activities. Based on the experiential learning approach, these services offer meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences. In addition, from the perspective of the third place theory, the library functions as an inclusive, open, and neutral public space for social interaction. Furthermore, the potential of these services is supported by the fulfillment of the seven tourism components: attraction, accessibility, amenity, ancillary, available package, activities, and affordability. However, challenges such as limited human resources and underdeveloped promotional efforts remain. Therefore, the development of recreational services requires a community-based and participatory approach to realize the library as a sustainable edu-tourism destination.
