Abstract

Students in boarding schools face greater academic challenges compared to students in regular schools, thus requiring strong self-resilience. This study aims to examine the influence of peer support and hardiness on the resilience of students in boarding schools. The method used in this study is correlational quantitative. The research subjects were high school students from three boarding schools in Sleman Regency. A total of 187 students participated as respondents, selected using a quota sampling technique. Data collection instruments included the Peer Support Scale and the Hardiness Scale, both developed by the researcher, and an adopted Resilience Scale. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression techniques. The results of the study indicate that the major hypothesis is accepted, meaning that peer support and hardiness have an influence on resilience by 47.1%. The minor hypotheses show that peer support contributes an effective value of 32.1%, and hardiness contributes 15.0% to resilience, both with a positive direction. The additional analysis showed a difference in resilience based on gender (p = 0.021) and the desire to attend boarding school (p = 0.046), while no significant differences were found based on school origin, school, age, grade level, or scholarship status. The implication of this study is that boarding schools can design programs to strengthen peer support networks and the hardiness personality.
