Abstract
The elderly are vulnerable to dementia, where they will experience cognitive and physical decline, requiring caregivers to carry out their daily activities. It will provide a great responsibility for caregivers and negatively impact their physical and mental health if caregivers do not seek help from professionals. This study aims to determine the relationship between dementia knowledge and attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help among caregivers of the elderly. The method used in this study was quantitative correlation with the research subjects, totaling 466 elderly caregivers in Aceh. Data analysis was carried out using Jamovi 2.6.13 software. The results showed that there was a highly significant positive correlation (Pearson's r: 0.178, p<0.001) between knowledge of dementia and attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help among elderly caregivers in Aceh. The results of this study are a new contribution, especially in the field of clinical and social psychology, which is expected to be the first step to pay more attention to the care of the elderly in Indonesia.
