Abstract

The diversity of medicinal plants at Agrotourism Merapi Farma Herbal has great potential as a contextual learning resource to introduce students to various types of medicinal plants in their surroundings. This study aimed to develop a pocket book on medicinal plant diversity, to examine its feasibility as a biology learning medium in the classroom, and to identify students’ responses toward the developed pocket book. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model, which consists of the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. However, this study was limited to the development stage with a small-scale trial. Data were collected through direct observation, expert validation questionnaires from one material expert, one media expert, one biology teacher, and five peer reviewers, as well as response questionnaires from ten grade X students of MA Ali Maksum Yogyakarta. The research instrument used was a questionnaire with a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5, and the data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis with percentage techniques. The observation results at Merapi Farma Herbal revealed 33 species of medicinal plants that have the potential to be used as learning resources. These findings were further developed into a pocket book using the 4D model. The analysis results showed that the pocket book obtained very good ratings with a feasibility percentage of 91% from the material expert, 97% from the media expert, 96% from peer reviewers, and 97% from the biology teacher. Students also gave a positive response with a score of 98%. Therefore, the pocket book on medicinal plant diversity at Agrotourism Merapi Farma Herbal is considered highly feasible to be used as a biology learning medium in the classroom.
